Working for Amazon?
« on: August 09, 2011, 10:30:02 AM »

Hey guys,

Was just called back for a 2nd interview for management at an Amazon warehouse that is due to open in my home town within the next month or so.  As there are so many ladies and gents here with connections to the industry, does anyone have any advice, opinions, suggestions?

Yes, I'd read The Zombie Survival Guide as many times as the next guy, but my whole Z-Plan revolved around -not- getting close enough to the deadheads in order to fight them in hand-to-hand combat. No thanks. Just stay the hell away and put one between their eyes from a safe distance.

Rule #3: Hide the cookies.  If you show cookies, they know you're done for!

Also: most importantly: relax and be yourself.

Will do!

I was hoping someone here had inside knowledge of how the company is....  But the humor is a good substitute!

Right now I work in a warehouse doing exactly the kind of work that would be done in an Amazon distro center.

First, there's the pickity-pack-it.  Then there's THIS:

And then, once you've completed the shippity-dip-it, you're off to do it again.

It's honest work.  And doing anything that a GERG does is always a win.

Cheers,
Gerg

No, I haven't.  It just feels like a circus around there, so I do what I can to keep entertained...

Already turned off by their hiring process.  To date, they have:
1. Lost my resume twice.
2. Screwed up my interview time.
3. Recorded me as already interviewing.
4. Putting me down as nterviewing for the positions I didn't want to apply for (first as material handler, then area manager...  wtf).
5. Generally being as useful as a sponge in a knife fight.  Apparently the local hiring office and the national hiring office are not coordinating information.  When I asked if they (national rep) could forward me to the local office, they said they didn't have the number.

Not holding my breath for anything at this point, which is probably a blessing in disguise.

Which is something to be noted about logistics companies in general.  The past few days have been telling about the atmosphere I'm expected to work in.

There is no local IT support.  It is ALL farmed out.  I am the most computer savvy person in the building (and judging by some of the things the IT outsource company has done, maybe the most in the whole system!)

And don't get me started on the Boss...........

And we're a TOP TIER logistics organization.  Our client closed their warehouse so they could let US screw it up for them!

Geez.
