Sweet!

You know, with parents naming their kids shit like Pilot Inspektor and Elijah Bob Patricus Guggi Q, strange names shouldn't be that hard to believe in a piece of fiction.

I don't think Friday is all that weird of a name...

Then again, that's just me.

I lobbied long and hard to name my daughter after the maiden name of my paternal great-grandmother:  Cloud.

The Much Better Half wouldn't give in--too hippie-sounding.  "Why don't we just name her Flower?" she asked.

"OK with me," I said.

"No, wait, I was kidding!" she responded in near-panic.  But it was too late.

So that's how my daughter came to be named Jasmine, four years before Disney's Aladdin came out and we suddenly had access to all kinds of cute kiddie-stuff with her name emblazoned on it.

That's serendipity for you.

Lane, you always refer to your wife as your 'much better half.'

Does that mean she is very, very good?

or

that you are very, very bad?  >:D

Kody, thanks for the question. I am working on a new novel.  I've written 65,000 out of 80,000 words.  I can't say much, but the novel is in the tradition of Richard Connell's short story "The Most Dangerous Game," and it will be linked to the Roses of Blood universe.

Exciting! Are there zombies in it?

I've another question for you... Being both PERMUTED writer and editor, I'm wondering how difficult it is to edit other horror novels, where the style of writing is clearly different to your own? Are you constantly tempted to rephrase?  :snell:

RE: New novel
Wayne, I don't want to reveal too much yet, but there are certainly beasties in it.

:snell:

RE: Editing
I tend to suggest A LOT of rephrasing, usually in the interest of clarity and concision--BUT! I try my best to maintain the author's voice and style.  In my own writing, I strive for a broad range of styles, from the verbose Roses of Blood to the simpler "Mortal Gods," so I can more easily adapt when editing.

I remember you mentioning something about a novel in the style of 'The Most Dangerous Game' now that you mention it. That was one CREEPY story.

Indeed it is, Kody.  If anyone is interested, Connell's "Most Dangerous Game" is available online.

Salutations, DL!  I'm just dropping into your forum to say 'Hi' since I saw you in chat today.  You were the one typing all the squiggly text.

(Or was I just drunk again?)

I have your book!

(I'm ashamed to say I haven't read it, I'm behind on my reeding.)
