Seasons in the Abyss
« on: June 11, 2011, 04:56:36 PM »

yeah, this another thread where i'm going to keep notes for myself. feel free to chime in. why not? only one of the stories is written, one other in progress.

this is a series of short stories for some of Dark Tomorrow's Faceless P.I. secondary characters. Io will be the lead, with appearances by Simon, John Chang (policeman from the original series of stories, before the reboot), Texas Ranger Clint Ichabod, Kinder and Fringe (along with his associates, Shift and Puzzle).

1 - WAR ENSEMBLE: Io and Simon break up a gathering of cultists, but it might be too late. what did they free from bondage? (unwritten)

2 - BLOOD RED: Io and John Chang find Redcaps in Austin. why? and how? (In progress)

3 - SPIRIT IN BLACK: Io and Clint Ichabod face down a forgotten god and remind him who he is. (published in Leather, Denim & Silver)

4 - EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Io and Simon come upon a plot to channel other forgotten gods and such into new bodies: still-forming fetuses. fetii. whichever. what will they do if they're too late to stop it? (unwritten)

5 - DEAD SKIN MASK: Io and John against resurrected serial killers? oh, why the hell not? (unwritten)

6 - HALLOWED POINT: Io and Fringe find that old methods of killing monsters . . . don't work so hot anymore. why? (unwritten)

7 - SKELETONS OF SOCIETY: a ghost town in the middle of nowhere is resurrected. how and why? Io and Kinder find out. (unwritten)

8 - TEMPTATION: (after "Skull Ring," before "Five Magics") Simon has disappeared. Io goes to find him, only finding . . . something else. (unwritten)

9 - BORN OF FIRE: (during the events of "Five Magics") Io tracks an old nemesis only to find she's an even older nemesis.

10 - SEASONS IN THE ABYSS: (after the events of "Sun Doesn't Rise") Simon returns after sealing off the source of all these previous woes, and he has a tale to tell.

i have "cover" images, too, for when the plan was to put these on the website. which might still be the plan, i dunno. the one for "Skeletons of Society" probably needs to change, since the idea has changed since these were first formulated.

i might also replace the cover for "Spirit in Black" with the cover for LDS. that is, when/if this part of the site goes active.

These are some awesome pictures.  How'd you get them all?

deviantArt, the same place i get the "covers" for the stories on the website. getting the go-ahead from the owners is a lengthy process, which is part of the other reason that i've sat on these ideas for so long. as of this writing (right NAO) i only have permission to use six of those ten pics.

"Blood Red" will appear in The Trigger Reflex: Legends of the Monster Hunter II alongside Rob Pegler's "Til the Sun is in the Sky."

well, not in the same section, but you know what i mean.

EXCELSIOR!!!

in slightly-related news, i'm going to write "Expendable Youth" and "Skeletons of Society" with submission to Borderlands 6 in-mind. they're going to be . . . disturbing. probably.

in another related note, i know where else Simon has been while he was absent from the Faceless P.I. stories, besides wherever he was between "Temptation" and "Seasons in the Abyss," which is somewhere along the lines of three years. or so. ahem.

and now i have an epitaph for the collected edition, whenever that comes to pass:

"The adventure first," said the Gryphon in an impatient tone. "Explanations take such a dreadful time."
