I'm dreaming again.

No, not the "I'm the next Clive Barker" kinda dream. I'm mean I'm dreaming again. Some folks call them nightmares, but I love to wallow in the twisted carnage my unbridled mind creates. Last night I was dying - but I only had a minute, or an hour... or a week to live. I was literally going to drop dead at any moment in the next several day's worth of moments and it was terrifying...

I woke up just before I died. But the fear was so starkly pure...

Some day I want to write a book in the vein of THE PRINCESS BRIDE, but right now, right fucking now, I want to write something so fucking scary readers can hardly make it through the opening chapter.

And that's a dream I can make come true.

I call myself the horrorscifiguy because I L-O-V-E horror and sci-fi (with the weird exception of Star Wars, but that's another story)

But truth is, my favorite scenes to write involve action and sexuality. Trying to write a scary scene is fun, no doubt, but I really wallow in the big fun when I'm doing a love scene or when action is at the forefront. So, a sexy adult superhero novel should be right in my wheel house, correct?

Bingo Jimbo.

One of the most important things about being a writer is knowing your strengths, but equally important is following your passion. Paychecks are really nice, but there are only a finite number of ideas a writer will bring to fruition. Best write what you love. Your passion, not your paycheck, will infect your readers.

Had a very important meeting this week re: getting back in the movie biz. It appears the foundation for a very viable local option is settling in for early 2013. I couldn't be happier with the opportunity.
So, how will this affect my writing? Well, it gives me a potential homebase for me to try to produce low budget horror flicks based on my own ideas/books/scripts. And I don't have to sell part of my soul returning to LA to make it happen. Then again, it opens up great opportunities for me to take business trips west, go to more conventions, perhaps visit AFI marketplace, and maybe make that annual convention in San Diego...you know, that up and coming comic based thing...I can't remeber the name...ha ha ha

Extremely excited about the possibilities of 2013 and beyond.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

We're buying our first place and should be moved in by New Year's Day. I have an intriguing job offer in the works for 2013. Making up great ground on the superhero novel. A warm weekend is coming so I should get a great ride in on the motorcycle. The current gig is going well. Picking up some overtime just in time for Christmas and the new digs. As far as I know, my family and close friends are all healthy, reasonably happy, and doing well.

Writing is my life, but my life needs balance. I've been blessed with so much, and yet I still want so much more for myself and my family and friends. It makes me feel selfish, and even more so as we approach the birthday of Christ our Lord.

So, I guess I'll get back to my superhero story and let my life unfold, and hope my hard work and prayers continue to bring positive results.

Peace out.

Newsflash: I want to make movies. I've wanted to make horror movies most of my life. It's something I never really pursued while I was in Los Angeles & worked for a decade at Showtime Networks. But that was then...

And this is now.

2013. The year I become a horror film maker. God, does that sound great.

Did anyone notice I didn't say horror screenwriter?

Busy busy busy, but still productive. Trying hard to get a running start at 2013. Still hoping to have a book out by summer and another out for Halloween, but now I've got a sexy thriller set up to pop for Valentine's Day 2014. And I very well may self-publish both 2013 books.

*shrug* Just not sure yet.

Gotta start somewhere, right?

Best Christmas in a long, long time. As it always is, I'm hyped up to get some major writing done, but too dang busy with moving into a new spot, along with the holidays and overtime at work.

Gotten some great tidbits done on the erotic thriller, and moving forward bit by bit on the superhero thang. Wish I had more to say, but I'm a little too distracted about the move. If I'm lucky, I'll get back to the grind early next week.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Too dang busy for my own good...Holidays are finally over, and we're moved into the new digs, but the new job is kicking my ass something fierce, and I've got 2 projects I need to get into serious gear on, a new office to re-decorate, a new writing desk to shop for, and the list goes on and on...
2012 was a very quiet year. 2013 is already pulsing like a grapefruit sized boil.
And on an odd side note: every time I move, I'm suddenly reminded about just how much Batman shit I have. Novels, graphic novels, non-fiction, artwork, etc. There's no denying I'm a Caped Crusader freak!

Well, okayyyyyyyy then...

It looks like I've land my artist of choice for the superhero thang which has me super excited. I've also found an excellent second pair of eyes to spy on my unsold end of the world thriller. Gotta get it out under reader's eye sometime this year.

My day gig is going great, except the financially wonderful overtime is really killing me on the writing time side of the ledger. I've got to find a way to balance that out. I've also got to start digging deep on really laying the foundation for the erotic thriller. There just hasn't been enough time to do everything I need to dabble in a little science like that old Michael Keaton flick where he clones himself, and pretty soon his clones are cloning themselves...ha ha ha. Now that I'm thinking of it, no wonder I haven't had a chance to pop by here the last couple of weeks. Duh.

I am, and will eternally be thankful to have never experienced that plague many creative thinkers have called writer's block.

I need to find a way to squeeze out another 3-4 solo creative hours a week.

But I'll settle for 2.

The reflection of a blessing is a curse. In the last 6 months I've had a number of major blessings but in the constant battle against time, I find myself sinking in a quagmire of wonderful things eating up my free time (aka writing time) like Pac-Man.

The new digs are a neverending chore list. I L-O-V-E my new place, but its as time absorbing as a clingy girlfriend.
As much as I love overtime, the latest gig is sucking an extra hour/hour & a half every day, sometimes more, and it mentally it's draining, which comes into play in the evenings.
And now there's a wonderful addition to the family named Bishop. We wanted a puppy and now we have one. I adore him, but I've written very little this week during this adjustment period. I planned for it, but time, like the sands of an hourglass, wait for no man...

And having these 3 projects are also a major blessing. And they need their slice of the time pie too.

Blessings...*heavy sigh*

I think I need to switch subjects...ha ha ha.

Having some real trouble with my erotic thriller. Here be the problem:

I've developed three different storylines for the projects over the past few years and I'm trying to blend the best elements of each story angle, but its not working. There are pros and cons to each storyline, with no clear cut "best of show". It's really got me tied in knots and I only have a couple of weeks to sort it out and develop a definitive outline to the publisher. Something has got to give, and soon.

Oh, and I wish almost every day I'd learned proper typing in high school. What I wouldn't give to be an 80 wpm typist...

Well, what a difference a week makes...

My brain/mind has sorted out the 3 different creative threads from the earlier outlines/paragraphs and fused together the best pieces. I'm hoping the selected pieces will be an equally chilling and steamy read. I have no doubt the illustrations will take the project to a whole 'nother level.

My previous books/stories have always had a sexual element, but The Butcher Bride equalized the horror/skin flick equation, at the very least. Now HYDE is going to kick the same door off its hinges, and hopefully this book will become my Exit to Eden.

If I could be so lucky. (Minus the very bad movie version)
