So, I finished this before the holidays, but I needed to digest it before posting. My first thought in reading was that Brian had really smoothed out his writing. It flows really well and incorporates the larger mystery we left off on in book 1 very quickly. The action isn't far behind, and before you know it, you're ass-deep in werewolves, taking those suckers down like only Brian can.
Then, surprisingly, the book gets darker. Given the material, that may sound redundant, but it's not. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I'll go so far as to say that this is not a re-tread of book one.
There are a lot of conversations that can be had over this, but I'll wrap up with the hope that book 3 is coming soon.
On a side note, after reading book 1, I had an idea to propose an anthology that featured monster hunters. A publisher took me up on it, and I'm accepting subs as we speak - see the Leather, Denim & Silver post in the Open Markets thread - and I mention this to give credit where credit is due, and in the vain hope that Brian has a short tale that didn't fit into any of the books. heh
I highly recommend Heart of Scars, and love that PP is publishing them!
Any word on book 3?
