Phoenix ComiCon
« on: April 15, 2010, 03:29:34 PM »

So, I think I'm going to be part of the programming at the Phoenix ComiCon.  Still waiting for final confirmation from their SciFi director, but it looks like that's where I'll be Memorial Day weekend.

Is anyone here even remotely in that area?  I'm terrified I'll end up in one of thier signing spots and just sit there alone for half an hour, gathering dust while everyone stands in line to get autographs from Stan Lee and Will Wheaton.   :D

If your signing in a ways into the program, you'll at least have the chance to attract a little bit of a local audience.  Even if you just get a few people who hang around and talk, they will talk to their friends and so on.  And if all else fails, you can say you are Will Wheaton.  I'm sure people won't know the difference. ::)

Yup, it's official.  If you're in the southwest over Memorial Day Weekend, swing by the Phoenix ComiCon and listen to me prattle on about all sorts of stuff.

Yes, but it gets soggy if you don't eat it quickly.

Am I reading correctly that you're doing a LOST panel?  AWESOME.  I want to be LA when I grow up.

I hven't been to phoenix since I was little, but with you being on a LOST panel you'll be surrounded by people!

Also, how sad, I have no idea when Memorial day is.

Yeah, when their sci-fi director and  were emailing back and forth he came across a listing for the new issue of Creative Screenwriting and the big LOST article I'm doing.  It doesn't sound like there's going to be anyone involved with the show on the panel, just a bunch of folks with semi-related credentials...  :D

Was also supposed to be doing a Doctor Who/ Torchwood panel and one on the current wave of cross-genre/ mashup fiction...

Ugh.  With all the stuff that's happened over the past two weeks or so, I've had to back out of the Phoenix ComiCon.   :-[

I'm completely exhausted and drained on about every possible way.  I talked to Lee Whiteside, the director, and he was very understanding.  I still feel like a complete heel, because I know he created at least one panel just because he realized I'd be a good person to have on it.

Instead, I shall spend the long weekend drinking and listening to country music.

The music of pain.

What about the Blues?  The music of suffering.  So much broader than mere pain.

Sorry to hear that, Pete.  I know the feeling when you just can't handle everything all at once.  But Country music?  Nobody hates themselves THAT much.

Chin up, Bro.  I'll drink one with ya.

Oh, the sweet suffering.  Pinhead always struck me as a Blues kind of cenobite... ;D

I'll take you up on that, Greg.

Yeah, the end of April/ early May has just been brutal for me, my lovely lady, and my family.  Last weekend was such a miserably low point I can't begin to describe it.  I could've found out I had terminal cancer and it almost would've been a relief, to be honest, with the way everything else has been going.

However, things finally, slowly began to crawl back up this week and Thursday I got the best night of sleep I've had in about a month (not just because the Fringe finale was so great...).

Hopefully it will all be concluded soon and I'll be able to get my head back in the right place.  I'd love to be at next year's Phoenix ComiCon as the author of Ex-Heroes, The Eerie Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, and the just-released Ex-Patriots.

 :)
