I had the same thing happen with The Cars.  But I'm almost positive it's not because I'm old.  I think they used their vast wealth and influence to erase themselves from recent history so the new album would be a bigger hit.  Only a few of us were strong enough to resist their manipulations.

Remember that old Billy Crystal bit when his daughter walked up to him and said "Dad, is it true Paul McCartney was is another band before Wings?"
