I'm in complete agreement with everything here except Brotherhood of the Wolf.  Although I love the movie, I'd never include it on my favorite WEREWOLF list, for reasons only those who've watched should know because I don't want to ruin anything.  Awesome, awesome movie though.

Since they're remaking Teen Wolf, I hope they'll finally come out with a special edition DVD of the original, something remastered in surround sound at least.  Also, anyone remember the Teen Wolf Saturday morning cartoon?  As a kid, I was hooked on that before I'd seen the movie.

I'm hoping werwolves become the next big monster craze because we need more movies.  The list of the greats is way too short, IMO.

I've never been a big TEEN WOLF fan, even though I liked Michael J Fox (and really admired him as a person).  I always preferred FULL MOON HIGH directed by Larry Cohan, the director of such classics as Q, IT'S ALIVE, and GOD TOLD ME TO.  It's very similar, though not as slapsticky.  It's near impossible to find now, though, so I'm relying on my viewing of, perhaps, 20 years ago...not always the best way to remember things.

And I promise to do my bit in making werewolves the next big screen monster fad.  Lately, it seems like we've forgotten monsters at the box office.  When a good one comes along, like THE HOST, I hold it close and cherish it.

Bill I have to agree that Hollyweird seems to have forgotten the monsters that we all have grown to love.  Today it's ghosts this ghosts that with the occasional slasher thrown in for good measure.  When they do turn to one of those monsters what they turn out is so aweful it's not even worth watching.

I did.  I pretty much like any werewolf movie because there are so few.  I didn't think it was as horrible as the critics said.

Good enough.  I included it not so much in regards to it's pressence or absence of werewolves; moreso it was the idea of how and where the mythology was warped.  I want to refrain from details, but the werewolf myth was in there; just different.

Just my 2 cents therein.

PS:  I do love a good werewolf movie.  They need to make a new one.

Hey Bill,

I'm with you on the original Lon Chaney JR version of The Wolfman. I just bought the new Legacy Collection version of it and it's amazing.

Along with the original version, it also comes with the sequels, Werewolf of London, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and She-Wolf of London. Not to mention a small bust of the Wolf Man which was included with it and which is now staring at me from the bookcase.

Long Live Werewolves,
Ron

I have the same bust, along with Dracula and Frankenstein on a shelf at my writing desk.  inspiration, daont ya know.

I was never big  on the monster mash-ups (FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN, etc), but SHE WOLF OF LONDON definitely has its creepy and campy moments.  A fun little flick.

You guys have pretty much already called out the best werewolf movies around.  :)

I'm a big fan of werewolf movies, and hope to make my own some day.

Personally I have a soft spot for FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN, especially after I read a copy of the original script. Universal butchered it when they cut out all of Lugosi's lines and a good third of Chaney's. And the WOLFMAN is still my favorite, bar none.
Anybody here got an opinion on the new flick coming out, BIG BAD WOLF? Supposedly it has a trash-talking werewolf as the baddie...

Have you guys heard about Benicio Del Toro playing the Wolfman in a new Wolfman remake?

I've heard about that remake.  It's due out in December.  Benicio can be great (Traffic) or awful (that thing with Alicia Silverstone) so who knows.  Won't need too much makeup at least, but they'll probably CGI it and ruin it.
