One time I edited an entire novel in a month. Yet it has taken me years to work on BNTotA.

Those of us being so quickly and carefully edited appreciate it!

Kim, loving the book. Your writing style is simple and clean, thus accessible.

As an editor I never ask this, but should: what part of your story were you never fully satisfied with? What I mean is, in my own writing I always find trouble spots, bits of imagination that never fully ripen into words. What trouble spots, if any, are in D2L3?

Also, what parts came together well?

Try answering that one without spoilers  ;)

Tough one for non-spoilers, but I'll try, as it's a neat question, I think!

Well, there is some imagery late in the novel that came together very gradually and organically and I was happy with the subtlety of it. It wasn't like I was slathering it on, but the imagery was just insinuating itself and I was there to expedite it. Further (and this has happened in most all my longer works) this imagery involves secondary characters, none of whom were planned out when I started - I just realized as I went that I needed someone for my main characters to interact with, I came up with some who seemed interesting and believable, and they took on a life of their own.

Now, it's even harder to describe the scene I don't like w/o spoilers! But, well, I have revealed before that a major character dies, and it was hard for me to block that scene in a way that I felt was sufficiently suspenseful and tense. But, I'll let it simmer and look it over again when you get to it, and I think it'll turn out great by the final version!

Great answer, Kim. By the way, I gave you a small plug in my Funky Werepig interview; I mentioned that I'm editing D2L3. Speaking of which...

any good surprises?

I don't think you've met the new characters yet, I'd be interested what you think of them!

I think you've met some of the baddies, or as my one beta kept saying "Oh, he needs gutting...and him.... and her!"

Lucy is my greatest triumph as an author. A spirit of darkness and light descended on me when I wrote her chapters and wrote them for me.

She's complex and real. Can't wait to see what kind of trouble the good guys will get into.
