I would be tempted to think that KINDLE is more aimed at our younger viewers... but, having said that, the only person I know to own one is Ms DD HOO-HAA's mum!

I'm not a techno-person, at all. I'm only just getting used to owning an i-pod.

oh now look, this is just not fair.  Last year for my birthday i wanted either a kindle or a sony ebook reader - i got the sony version because it was cheaper and easier to use.  The one problem is I CAN'T BUY KINDLE VERSIONS FOR IT.  So no, i won't be buying a Kindle, i have a very nice ebook reader already (for about half the price), and it'd be really really awesome if permuted could bring out some books in ordinary ebook version.  I'd buy a dozen right now.

stupid kindles... *grumble*

Here's a quote from an article Joe McKinney linked to in another thread...

Quote from: DearAuthor.com
According to an interview with the NYTimes, Amazon spokesperson divulged this: “We are excited to make Kindle books available on a range of mobile phones,” said Drew Herdener, a spokesman for Amazon. “We are working on that now.”

This is pretty huge news, as noted by MobileRead.

Maybe it won't MATTER whether or not you own a Kindle...

But it does mean that they might be engineering it so that it will operate on other types of e-book readers also...

I put this one in my want category, but can't yet justify buying.

I had a chance to play with one for a while recently, it is quite fun.  You get a little progress bar at the bottom instead of page numbers.  The purchase and download process couldn't be easier and faster.  There was no indication that the download was occurring, the device just suddenly blurped that a new book had arrived, within a minute or so of turning the wireless on.  I mostly spent time reading through the manual on the device and jumping around to play with features, I didn't sit and read for a sustained period.  But it was good on the eyes.

I see the reports of the Kindle 2 announcements today.  Reading through gizmodo's reports, they definitely improved the shape and buttons on the new model, the old model's giant flipper paddles are gone in favor of more room to hold the device, which is a huge improvement.  It looks like it is a consistent thickness, rather than the thick-side/thin-side shape it had, which I approve of.  They lost the rubberized backing though, so it should be a bit more slippery when you set it down.  And they lost the scrollwheel and weird little sparkly indicator for selecting lines and menu items, replaced with a proper thumbstick for navigation.

I haven't got the official stats yet, but DDG seems to be selling some copies on KINDLE.

Nice! I believe Roses has too.

For anyone paying attention that cares, we've got 4 books out since the tail end of January and 21 copies combined sold since then.  The highest individual title has sold 6 copies.

I'm undecided. I like the concept but I live in Canada and the Kindle's not available to us Canucks just yet.

On a self-promo note, my zombie novel, Blood of the Dead, has just shown up on Kindle. You can access it here and thanks in advance to any who check it out.

I just uploaded another Coscom title to the Kindle tonight so that should up over the next day or two. Blood of the Dead was very fast. Only took a day from upload to showing up on Amazon. Our whole catalog should be Kindle-available over the next couple weeks.

No, I like the feel and look of books too much.

Plus they will probably end up having the same effect on book publishing that ipods and mp3's have had on music. Disastrous. At some point people will have access to all these Kindle'd books for free at a million websites just like you can, if you so desire, find and download any music you want without buying it.

Harper, that's an excellent point, and it's already happening, not with Kindles specifically but with books in general. People even scan the pages of their hard copies and save them as a PDF, which they distribute freely and illegally.

I'm in the 'no and never' camp. I love reading, but I also love books as objects. Some people collect toys, I collect books.

If they ever become a damn sight cheaper, I might be tempted, but I don't see that happening.

DDG is doing fairly well on KINDLE. Last time I looked, it was riding a respectable 23K in the AMAZON sales ratings.

It'll be interesting, of course, to see how that translates to actual copies sold.
