Ok so I brought the kids to see ParaNorman . I know I know it's a kids movie but hey it's got zombies  ;D
anyways it's rated PG but it is kinda of dark and probably more along the rating of PG13. Yay for Zombies

Paranorman a couple days ago.  The first act was a bit overlong but decent, the second, good, and the third, excellent enough to make up for any shortcomings in the rest of the film.

Double feature day!!!

Saw Paranorman and liked it a lot.  Think it's pretty solid and kid-safe, with lots of nice stuff for the adults.  The vending machine scene is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

Then we watched The Campaign.  I'd say it's maybe 80% a great movie.  The thing is, every time you kind of want them to pause and take a breath and maybe have a more serious moment to contrast all the comedy... they crank it up to eleven with the most bizarre, goofy thing they can think of.

The Last Legion

This is one of the many Romans-in-England-loosely-tied-to-Arthurian-legend films that came out a few years back.  Remember, there was a wave of them with Kiera Knightly and Channing Tatum and others...?

This one's got Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, one of the most beautiful women in the world, and about half the cast of Game of Thrones (seriously).  It's actually pretty good.  Not Oscar-worthy, but it's a very solid B-movie with some nice character stuff and decent acting all around.  If I found it for under ten bucks, I'd grab it without hesitation.

The Expendables II - Bigger! Louder! Dumber! This movie is sometimes clever, but the thin plot is mostly an excuse for an almost endless barrage of guns, fists, knives, and quips. Stallone and Statham storm an eastern European country to save 5 tons(!) of Plutonium from vicious mercinaries led by Jean-Claude Van Damme. They get some timely assistance from Willis, Schwartzenegger, and Chuck Norris. There's a climactic fight scene between Stallone and Van Damme that didn't live up to my expectations (Van Damme looks like the victim of botched plastic surgery and doesn't do a single helicopter kick  :( )

It's a very flawed movie.

I LOVED it.

Captain America. Man he looked weird as a tiny guy. Just had this tiny body and HUGE nose and forehead.  ;D

I think I am caught up on all the Marvell movies now except what's not on netflix or amazon now. It kind sucks how The Punisher obviously got the B-team production crew.  :embarassed:

X-Men: The Last Stand. I remember thinking it was crap the first time I saw it, but I appreciated it more this time around, the whole silly Alcatraz battle sequence notwithstanding. Xavier's final moments = pretty much the highlight of the whole flick.

It's the weakest link in trilogy. Does not feel like X men more like Wolverine & friends.

Lockout

(the United Airlines verion, which may or may not have been edited)

more fun than i thought it was going to be. i had envisioned Escape From New York a) in space and b) without Snake Plissken, so it was a nice surprise to see it was both of those things and still completely enjoyable. if they decide to make this one a franchise, i'm all for it.

Oh, I agree. Speaking as someone generally unfamiliar with the source material (the comics of my childhood were more in the realm of surreal British sci-fi) it was definitely the film that derailed the whole franchise. The first two are great (especially the second one), but the best you can say about X3 is that it has some great individual moments, loosely held together by a weak and half-arsed plot. And the "cure gun" was dumb.

Trollhunter - Holy Frak!  Freaking good movie!
