Yeah LA the new one. It was there for rental offering SD and HD...as of today it's $14.99 to buy in only SD.

But the original is streaming free on Crackle so it'll do.

Yeah I know...first world problems...:)

Dark Shadows - This one could have been so much fun. Johnny Depp as Barnabus was fun to watch even when the script had him spouting nonsense lines. I liked (still seriously hot at 52) Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, and Jackie Earl Haley. Eva Green as Angelique was a disaster, though this may not be actress's fault. The movie tried to be a whole bunch of different things and if they'd ever picked a direction and stuck with it, it would have been much better. As it is, it's a mess with a few good scenes.

think i watched most of "Thinner" last night, but it was in a bar and the sound was off, so it's difficult to be sure.  Even so, i think i got the gist of it... except at the end, when there was a pie, i'm not sure what was going on there.  ;D

The Hidden (1987). Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri hunt a body-hopping alien parasite that's joyriding its way through LA on an interplanetary crime spree. I was reminded of this one by Charles' "Musings on the mindless dead" thread. Hadn't seen it since I was about 14 but remembered it loving it to death, so I gave it a rewatch yesterday.

Now, most of the awesome movies I remember from my teens turn out to be not very awesome at all when  I nostalgically revisit them two decades on, but this is one of the exceptions. This film hasn't aged a day - even the (surprisingly few) special effects still hold up pretty well, and it's a neat little blend of buddy cop/sci-fi/horror/action that never takes itself too seriously. Pretty impressive for a twenty-five year old sci-fi thriller with a budget of five million bucks (though I have no idea what that would be with inflation).

Just don't bother with the 1992 sequel. Just... don't.

Just came back home after seeing PROMETHEUS in 3d. Not thrilled. From my list of questions half were left unanswered, another were added. I'm back to square one. Big space ships, aliens and nice landscapes - it's not hard to find a movie with those. PLOT was the key here. It's not to convincing.

This was the subject of my first blog rant, over at the Permuted Authors' party.  Still the most-commented blog of the lot, oddly enough (even discounting my replies).

If a skinny guy offers you strawberry pie, do NOT eat it, OK?

Hugo.

it was a'ight.  I think for cinematography and lushness, it was gorgeous.  It was a love affair with film itself
(not that that's a bad thing)

Snow White and the Huntsman.

Visually rich, but somehow empty.  The evil was up to speed, but the good was boring.  Had no soul.  Was too predictable, or something.

Can't quite put my finger on it.

Yup. As independent movie its watchable, as prequel of Alien - a let down. Fassbender is great, I admit.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Birthday gift.  Plus, now that The Avengers is out, it's neat to go back and see how much stuff they managed to weave between these movies.

Plus, Chris Evans is a great Cap.  And Hugo Weaving is phenomenal as the Red Skull.  :)
