Avengers - Words fail me when I try to say how much I enjoyed this movie. It was smart, funny, intense, exciting, and had some genuinely emotional moments. Every single character got his or her moment. Loki was a wonderful villain and the heroes rocked, every single one of them. And for once, Sam Jackson's persormance wasn't obnoxiously over the top.

Everyone played their part exceptionally well. I had no idea of what to expect of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk but IMO he is the best actor for the role since Bill Bixby. I loved his "I'll tell you a secret..." line. Robert Downey Jr. has always been great as Tony Stark/Iron Man and this was not dininished at all in this movie. I really like that they included Pepper Potts as more than a walk on. I loved both of the Black Widow interrogation scenes, I loved the way Hawkeye looked away as he fired an arrow as if already sighting on another target. I loved Stark calling Loki a "full-on diva", I loved, "Hulk... smash!" I loved the fact that police, soldiers, firemen, and civilians mattered in the middle of a superhero battle. And I almost had a nerdgasm after the credits. I know who that is and why he's smiling

I haven'r walked out of a mivie smiling this much in a long time.

This movie looks really good.  However, I refuse to give Marvel/Disney any money at this point.  The whole Gary Friedrich fiasco has permanently soured me on them.  Disgusting behavior.  I still remember how utterly miserable the poor man looked when I met him at a con last year (probably one of the last ones where he was able to sell anything Ghost Rider related).

I, Too, Saw Marvel Avengers.

Wasn't quite as smiley as Smatthew up there, but it was fun.  There were some great lines (such as when Thor says Loki is his brother, BW says he's killed 80 people in 2 days, Thor says, "Well, he's adopted")

I really do hope they play up the Subtext between Captain American and Iron Man, they are definitely the next Xena/Gabriella duo for sexual tension.  I was also happy to see how much camera time was spent scrolling up spandex clad men's backsides.  Josh knows about the male gaze, and I do think he was trying to even the score a bit here (especially the opening Capt America Scene - long lingering on the backside)

this is the second time (that i know of, to be fair) you've said something about sexual tension between characters where i don't think there is any. are you projecting?

(i'm not being snarky. i know, it's my normal mode of communication, but now i'm just being . . . curious.)

To be fair, I said they needed to play it up.  And the same can probably be said for you not wanting to see it :p

(and, yeah - I'm just playing around with the subtext anyway.  It's not there, but should be, because it would be fun. )

If it's there I missed it. On the other hand, I thought there was a ton of subtext between Downey's Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law's Dr. Watson.

Some superhero movie.  It was okay.

If by okay, you read ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE!!!!!

 ;D

The zombie agrees. Most heartily and quite emphatically.

Favourite bit (without giving any of it away, those who've seen it will know instantly what it is):

Hulk and Thor walking side by side, Hulk glances down briefly at Thor ... heheheeee....

And dang!  Avengers is now in my top 5 movies of all time ...

That got a huge laugh at the theater.  The movie was fun, they maintained a perfect level of camp.

This was one of my favorite gratuitous scenes:

it's okay if you don't go see it, Pat. Marvel will get your $15 from that guy instead.

Sadly, yes.  But I'm not making mine Marvel again until they stop acting like dicks.

for The Avengers, i can't say what was intended. for the other time you mentioned it, i can definitively say what was or was not intended.
