It's a horror comedy, even the trailer pushes it as such.

I get your point but there is also times in life that are scary and there is no comedy. I also hate slasher gore gore gore GORE movies so I recognize I'm too hard to please.

But if you're going to say "it's got comedy in it--it's a horror comedy" than by that definition, like I said above, Raiders is an action comedy.  Hellraiser is a horror-comedy because we chuckle at Kirsty's would-be-boyfriend swallowing a cigarette as he tries to impress her, and so's Aliens because we laugh at Burke's sleaziness and Newt's no-nonsense view of her doll.

These are all silly examples, I admit it, but we all know they're silly because we can all admit that just having a laugh or two (or a kiss, or a serious moment) doesn't break the overall tone of these movie.

Fright Night is dark and creepy.  It's a horror movie.  No matter what those brilliant marketing people say.  ;)

Ok hold on....

I'm going to rent this to make sure this is the movie I'm thinking of. If I'm right I'm having my dog add to that bag of dog poop I'm sending you.

Hugo
Set in 1930s Paris, this movie follows an orphan, living in the walls of a train station, who is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

What a wonderful film!

My lovely lady just got her new Academy card!!  Another year of free movies!  And they're even starting the season early!

I'll get to see John Carter for free twice!

Just got home from John Carter.

Very, very impressed.  Considering the usual issues you get when adapting something and the fact that this is a century-old story that's been copied a few hundred times in four or five formats, I think Andrew Stanton did an absolutely amazing job.  Changes were made, yes, but I think they were needed changes and made the story stronger, overall.

It was fantastic.  I laughed, cheered, and even got misty-eyed twice.  Granted, one of them was when the film perfectly showed a particularly gory-yet-iconic image from the books (no spoilers).  It might not win an Oscar, but ten-year old Pete was shrieking with joy for most of it.

When the lights came up my girlfriend turned to me with a big smile and said "We get to see this again on Saturday!"

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. It was what it was. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Was that the one with the French woman in the '20s and a mummy?

In a mysterious land called "New Releases".

Was that the one with the French woman in the '20s and a mummy?

Pretty much. It's a Luc Besson film based on a 1970s French comic. Without giving away too much: Adele Blanc-Sec a 1910s-era adventurer and travel writer whose sister is in a vegetative state after a (decidedly implausible) freak accident, and comes up with an elaborate plan to save her involving a mystic/necromancer and an Egyptian mummy, which gets screwed up due to an incident with a recently-hatched pterodactyl running amok in Paris. Imagine one of the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies crossed with Tintin, with the visual/storytelling style of The Fifth Element.

Honestly, you and your windswept barbarian country. I'm going to have to mount a relief expedition. Expect a train of camels loaded with European movies, metric rulers and books about evolution. We should be there in six months, assuming we survive the trek across the Bible Belt.
