Better than . . . Reb Brown?

You'd better not be implying Reb Brown was anything except a perfect Captain America, down to every last stripe on his '70s ninja-inspired costume.

Snow White and the Huntsmen.  Frank went to easy on it.  It has no life or soul.  The dialogue was horrible.  I couldn't blame Stewart (who was her normal acting self) because so much was bad, and dropped, and trampled on.

I really did feel I was watching Legend II for a lot of it.

Best line though, when Hemsworth turns to Stewart and says, "You look good in Male" - because really, oh man.  I was waiting for the follow-up line to seal the deal.

comparing the costume from Captain America—The First Avenger to the one from The Avengers, i like the 1940's version better.

but the Matt Salinger costume was cool. that movie wasn't bad, either. it wasn't great. but it was fun.

X-Men first class.

Decent but the low end of the franchise I thought. Wolverine just muttering "fuck off" was awesome.

Rango - Animated tale about a pet iguana that gets lost in the desert and ends up becoming sheriff of a small western town (populated by other animals).  It's visually gorgeous and lots of it is very clever, but there were also big swaths where I thought I might have dozed off and had some odd dream of cobbled-together fragments of it.

Also, stories with "the idiot who doesn't realize how stupid he is but eventually gets a clue" grate on me really fast.  This was walking a line for me.

It's worth seeing.  Not sure I can say it was good, if that makes sense.

The Divide - a very twisted movie this one.

Michael Biehn stars but it has plenty of young and older talent (I'm looking at you Rosanna Arquette). It is a very intense look into survivors of the nuclear destruction of New York who manage to worm (i.e. storm the door before Biehn can get it shut)their way into Michael Biehn's sub-basement BOL/shelter.

Things get interesting with the arrival of a military search team (played with the usual jackbooted thuggishness preferred by Hollyweird) but then the shit truly hits the fan when they get trapped back inside. You see the creep descent into madness by the group as they face hunger and what they believe to be entombment in this basement. It is a decidedly dysfunctional view that takes into the heart of misery and madness. It has some gunplay, nuclear explosions, creepy sex, despair and just plain old shithouse rat crazy. I liked it.

booooo, Rango!  ;D  No real offence to it as a movie, but i think it cheated Chico and Rita out of an Oscar.  ;D

Osombie - Osama Bin Laden as a zombie ... surprisingly well done!

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies ... again surprisingly well done, and more importantly, dialogue in context of time!

Men in Black 3 - It was better than 2, not as good as 1, but a lot of fun

12 and Holding - basic plot:  Twin boys and bullies.  Bullies go late at night to burn down the twin's tree house not knowing one is spending the night inside, and he dies.

So, how does a kid deal with the loss of his brother?  And the family?  And the town?

Also, one of their friends gets her first period and falls in love with a construction worker who is a patient of her mom's (therapist) and uses him both as a fill-in for her father, and has a crush on him that goes a little strong.

Another subplot too.

I really enjoyed it, it's depressing but satisfying and a little 'whoa' at the ending, but the acting is great an subtle, as is most of the writing.  I didn't think the third plot point was needed, but was good.

A terrible butchering of The Hulk (2008) on ITV last night... who exactly, at 11.30 at night, needs to be protected against seeing Tim Roth being punted across a field like an amusingly-accented ragdoll?  Unimpressed.

Of course, this is the same TV channel that gave us the immortal post-watershed edit of Robocop, featuring such lines as "one time i even called him an airhead".

Once upon a time, movies on New Zealand television were censored all to hell and back. This included blurring out the scarier bits of horror movies, replacing all the naughty words (Jack in The Shining told Shelly Duvall to stay the f[hell] out of the room while was writing, Samuel L Jackson in Coming to America confronted Eddie Murphy with "Who's this a[irhead]?" and "F[orget] you!") and, of course, cutting out all the decently gory bits of Robocop and Commando.

Fortunately, we've all grown up a bit. These days you can say "shit" on the evening news and nobody bats an eyelid.

Prometheus - a wildly uneven film For me I am sad to say. There were moments of greatness and moments of WTF?! Good actors giving good performances but serving the plot and not the character.
I had hoped for more, but still enjoyed the good parts.
