Cloud Atlas - seen it? Read it?
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:55:43 PM »

So a few days back, I stumbled across this (extended) trailer on YouTube, for what looks like a very ambitious movie based on a very ambitious book. Hadn't heard of either, to be honest, but watching the trailer makes me want to check out the book first, and the movie second. Apparently it's been out in the US and Canada for a couple of months, but won't swing this way until next year (if at all).

Just wondered if anyone's read the novel or seen the flick, and had a (preferably spoiler-free) opinion. The premise intrigues me, but a story like this could so easily suck.

I've read the book and thought it was a beautiful weird masterpiece. I've been hesitant about the movie, because frankly I've always thought the book was unfilmable.  Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so, since it didn't do too well when it was released a couple weeks ago.

I tend to think there's no such thing as an unfilmable book, and I'm suspicious of any book that claims to be. Still,it doesn't surprise me that something like this wouldn't do well at the box office - I can see a lot of people watching the trailer and saying "WTF was that all about?" In fact, a lot of people are saying that.
