I loved Canticle.

Horseclans anyone?  (Robert Adams)
BattleCircle anyone?  (Piers Anthony)

I know they're not the same vein, but still, they're both about rebuilding the world after humanity pissed it away.

David Gemmel's Jerusalem Man books also strike me as fitting into this list...

I think it would be great if someone wrote some zombie stories set long after the initial outbreak. You know, world building and coping mechanisms, rather than anti-zombie weapons and tactics. Rebuilding civilization, rather than watching it fall.

Note of a comic (to be movie) with a similar theme: after the aliens have gone:

The idea of civilization rebuilding with zombies is interesting.  Imagine what would happen to the labor market flooded with cheap workers that neither have to be paid nor require those pesky healthcare benefits?

How about "Zombies on Mars" to aid the first settlers with construction of a dome city?  If you're going for post-Apocalyptic, you could always use zombies for transporting goods across "hotspots".

Or of course you could go with the slightly absurd with oil supplies running out the world turns to putrid green power to solve their problems - Zombies.  Whole rooms filled with them strapped to power generating machines.  Wagons laden with goods being dragged across the interstates replacing semis.  (Other than the stink, they're the ultimate in low emission power!  Though, the drawbacks of having a car wreck where portions of the car are liable to get up and try to eat people might be a problem.  Bah!  Details!)

Do we have a formal announcement forthcoming? I'm already pumped for this one. Man, I don't think I'm ever gonna get away from zombies. :D

We will have three REALLY BIG names in it. Two are definite and we're working on the third.

We're waiting on the contracts from the REALLY BIG names so we can announce them along with the guidelines.  Shouldn't be too drastically long.

pins and needles, pins and needles.  Wait, they make effective traipings for a gritty, horrific tale of pins and needles, pins and needles.
