I've heard Torchwood is pretty good, and I certainly plan on giving it a shot.  Captain Jack is one of my favorite characters of all time!

...They also need to bring a War Tardis into the series.  Btw, I sense there is some definite backstory that needs to be explained with the Doctor-Tardis relationship.

Van

Van, beg or steal a copy of The Doctor's Wife.  That is EVERYTHING that needs to be explained about the Doctor-Tardis relationship.  Easily one of the most delightful episodes of the Matt Smith series, which, is pretty much saying it has to be one of the best episodes of television.

Ever.

EVER!

It WAS a fantastic episode: home was a terrifying entity, and the episode was probably the darkest episode so far (or at least a tie with midnight).  I actually came out of that episode wanting to know MORE about the TARDIS.  I think there would be a lot of potential to develop a story with the TARDIS... One that should have those terrifying WAR TARDISES.  :D

The War TARDIS idea gets a lot of use in the books that revolved around the Time War (well... around the original Time War), like The Ancestor Cell.  One of the funny bits is that War TARDISes (TARDISi?) appear as massive, planet-sized battleships.  The Doctor's companions are terrified, but he brushes it off by explaining the Time Lords are just showing off and using the chameleon circuits to make the outside of each TARDIS match the inside.

Past that... it seems unlikely any other TARDISes survived past the Doctor's.  Surviving TARDIS would imply another surviving Time Lord, and the only other survivor we've seen didn't even have one.  :-\

I think it's for the best, really.  It always felt like the original series started to lose a lot as it went more and more into the Doctor's homeworld and backstory.  "Invasion of Time" or "Trial of a Time Lord" come to mind...

I agree that keeping the Doctor unique is a better storytelling device.  You could do some other interesting things with a TARDIS though.  You could have space pirates who have tumbled onto an abandoned TARDIS and are causing mischief with it.  For that matter, an insane TARDIS would make a great villain.

Insane, rogue TARDIS?

BRILLIANT!!!

Will have to continue playing catch-up with canon.  As I'm caught-up on modern Who, that leaves only a couple decades-worth of episodes and assorted media.  No big. :D

My eight year old nephew has discovered the Doctor. He's got a hat and super-long scarf he likes to wear. He says that when he gets a phone his ring will be, "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"

I'm so proud.

Thanks to Mr Brannan and St Nick, I now have eleven little Doctors lined up along the top of my bookcase. It's a like a cross between sci-fi merchandise and an Agatha Christie novel.

I got the same set.  They're along one edge of my desk by my computer.   ;D

like i bitched in the Sherlock thread, when it's time for Matt Smith to hang up the sonic screwdriver, i would like a more serious Doctor. someone that knows Venusian Aikido and isn't afraid to use it, goddammit!

and i think the plural for TARDIS is TARDIS.

I'm almost done watching Season 6, but missed the last couple of episodes due to a faulty DVD. I still like Smith, but all the absent-minded bumbling is getting a bit old. Frankly, he's starting to make me miss Tennant.

Also, the various revelations about River Song were, perhaps, a bit much.

i think this writing team is a bit prone to melodrama. what was it, only when he's been at his highest will he fall to his lowest, or something? meh.

you know which episodes grow tiresome for me? the big cast ones, where they gather everybody together for a big hurrah. i always thought the Doctor was best when he dropped into the middle of nowhere, didn't know what has happening except something was wrong, and funmble-fucked his way through it with his brains.

or something like that.

They're not just prone to melodrama; they gobble it up with a knife and fork and fries on the side.

And yeah, the "let's get all the Doctor's little chums from the last two seasons together like an all-stars basketball team" episodes are painfully cheesy. Fortunately, though, the good far outweighs the bad.
