The Present Age: On the Death of Rebellion: Søren Kierkegaard

Never before have I read a work of non-fiction this quickly, nor enjoyed it this much.

BTW, Lane/Zombiemutts, regarding an earlier side-discussion:

Good youtube user, some good videos.  I'm actually an INFJ. :D

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

I LOVED it in the beginning.  Then I felt it kind of became formulaic and a bit forced.

But that opening was great.

Eric S. Brown - Bigfoot War

SPOILERS ABOUND.

i don't know. it was full of violence and mayhem and crytozoology gone feral, but i didn't really connect with the book, perhaps because the first few people we meet get squished, and then so does everybody else, and the only survivor is some dude that shows up in the last 10% of the book.

i think i might have enjoyed it more if at least one person made it all the way. the alky coach would have been the best, if not the vengeance kid. someone who we meet right at the start and follow the story through, like Ripley in Aliens, or Danny from Red Dawn. the way the book is broken into several POV's hurts a little, as they're fast and there is very little in the way of introduction to the characters, most of them just to establish the ferocity of the sasquatch tribe.

the book was also a very short read. VERY short. it suffered a bit from editing woes. nothing really overt, but clumsy sentence structure and often-repeated words made for a slightly frustrating read. i suppose part of that might be the internal editor, who never shuts up now.

The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli

Pretty good stuff, though it's like an after-dinner mint compared to the previous work.

I finished a bunch on my recent vacation:

Ravenous by Ray Garton
The Gorge by Scott Nicholson
Master of the Moors by Kealan Patrick Burke
The Wheel of Darkness by Preston & Child
Berserker by William Meikle
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

All good reads . . .

Finished first three parts of Dark Tower by S.King. Then Survivors by Recht/Brannan. I'm starting fourth tome of Dark Tower.

Mixed feelings regarding D.T. World is definitely interesting but it's also weird and I think each tome can be slimmed down by 20% without a loss. I will see how it will unfold.

Survivors - good ending for good trilogy. Spot on Thom, I bet it was a hard job to finish that story after Z. A. Recht passed away. Quick narration, I've read it really fast and I'm happy that saga wasn't left without closing like Twin Peaks.

The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Good enough to keep me reading (I polished it off in a few evenings) but flawed in many ways. Vampire apocalypse aside, some of the plot and character stuff required a bit too much suspension of disbelief, and some of the exposition was on the clumsy side. They set things up really well with the spooky plane at the beginning, but then seemed to rush through the story from there. There's a bit where the old vampire hunter spends a couple of pages telling his life story to one of the other characters, even though we already got all that information earlier in the book. There also seemed to be a few loose ends, even besides the cliffhanger bits that were set up for the books to follow.

Good read nonetheless. Enough to make me want to give the next two(?) a crack.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

14, by Peter Clines.  I can't recommend it enough.  If I say much more, I'd be spoiling it.
