Very exciting news for Permuted:  J.L. Bourne's Day by Day Armageddon has been stocked by Borders for placement in some of their stores!  I also just found out via Bourne's forum that the book has been spotted on the shelves at Barnes & Noble as well!

Day by Day Armageddon is taking over!  If you spot it on the shelves somewhere let us know (and I'd love to get a picture)!

Thanks for all the support.  Pretty cool that my book is now brick and mortar.  I think I may be the first Permuted book in that category, correct me if I'm wrong, Jacob.  For those of you looking to attain success at writing, be patient and don't write for anyone but the story.  Success comes from writing from the heart.  Just like the unamed character in my writing...the book is an underdog, unknown to the mainstream...for now.

Wow, I can't imagine how great that must feel.  Good job man!  Glad to see your book getting the attention it deserves.  In fact, here is what I would write if asked for a promotional quote:

Vastly entertaining!  I couldn't put it down.  Worth every penny.

I wonder if this might lead B&N and Borders  to stocking more Permuted Press stuff?

It would be cool. ;D

Congrats to all involved.

Unknown to the mainstream perhaps, but not unknown to the fans of zombie/post apocalyptic survival literature. There is a discussion of DBDA on just about every horror forum I've frequented. You have a broad fan base and I'd venture to say that counts as being known to a degree and can only help to further recognition of your story in the mainstream horror genre.

As far as Borders and other brick and mortar places picking up more Permuted books? One could only hope. It at least brings the press to their attention and hopefully helps them appreciate how well some of the other authors are doing with their books, namely Zack's Plague of the Dead, and Kim's Dying To Live for example and hopefully they will be willing to take a chance on stocking those titles as well.

Oh, I wanted to confirm that I ran across a few copies in a Borders Superstore in Eatontown, NJ. I didn't get pics because I didn't have my cam with me, and my cell phone was left in the car. But yeah, they had them in stock.

My understanding of POD publishing is that bookstores are NOT able to return the unsold books. Big chains rely on the ability to return books, so as long as Permuted is POD, I would think that the chain would have to be convinced that a title had phenomenal potential, in order for them to stock it. The retail markup on books is low enough that they are very averse to risk.

And yet they are taking that risk with DBDA. One could only hope that if the sales numbers are similar for other's books then maybe it might be possible for them to take the same risk?

I think that's true for the most part. However, I'm not sure either of the big retailers would have accepted any copies for brick & mortar stores without the ability to return them. I wonder if Engrams has upgraded DBDA to returnable status? If not returnable this would be the first book that I know of that they have stocked without a return policy.

When I worked at Borders, I did hear that some books (like remainders) could be bought by the retailer at a much lower price, in exchange for NOT being able to return them. (I.e., higher risk, higher reward.)

I didn't ask borders or B & N to stock my book.  It just happened.  They came to me, not the other way around.  You guys know my modus operandi.  I have never been seen at conventions, in interviews, at book signings or ever sent my manuscript unsolicited.  The only people that have ever seen my paper manuscript are customers that have bought the book or people that were interested in it (Borders).

My main source of income is the good old Department of Defense.

Am I pleased that I'm on a book shelf somewhere? Sure.  I will not get to see it for myself until March of 2008 though.  There ain't a Borders where I'm at.  I don't know what convinced the Horror marketing guy to buy my book, but hell I can't complain.

I didn't convince anyone to take a risk on me.  I guess that's what I'm saying.  I'm not a very good salesman or politician.  My job is helping to get warheads on foreheads, not being a bigshot writer.
