I am not a Ron Paul supporter because of his associations with "white power" groups, however I think things get twisted to suit either side of people's agendas. I think it is important to note:
Paul keeps donation from white supremacist
Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has received a $500 campaign donation from a white supremacist, and the Texas congressman doesn't plan to return it, an aide said Wednesday.
Don Black, of West Palm Beach, recently made the donation, according to campaign filings. He runs a Web site called Stormfront with the motto, "White Pride World Wide." The site welcomes postings to the "Stormfront White Nationalist Community."
"Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity and inalienable rights. If someone with small ideologies happens to contribute money to Ron, thinking he can influence Ron in any way, he's wasted his money," Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said. "Ron is going to take the money and try to spread the message of freedom."
"And that's $500 less that this guy has to do whatever it is that he does," Benton added.
Black said he supports Paul's stance on ending the war in Iraq, securing U.S. borders and his opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"We know that he's not a white nationalist. He says he isn't and we believe him, but on the issues, there's only one choice," Black said Wednesday. "We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told The Palm Beach Post earlier.
And I honestly want to believe that this is Paul's stance on the issue.
I can't imagine any intelligent person wanting to support racism or racist organisations. I've known a few of my folks going down to Texas to support the mexican immigrant rallies against The Minuteman Project, because indigenous people need to stick together to fight the racist minutemen who are patrolling our border there. Not all of the patrollers are racist, mind you. But a lot have been brought in from racist militias and generally anyone can join them. I've seen video of mexican women being beaten for daring to cross the border. I've seen video of these Minutemen shooting at people crossing the border, a direct violation of the law. I know, the excuse is always that these border crossers are gangsters and will murder if need be to get across. But where is the video to support this? I didn't see that woman shooting anyone. I'm sure that it has happened, don't get me wrong. That is not my argument. But the vast majority of the illegals crossing are regular people like you and me. Am I against securing our border? NO! What I'm against, is the propaganda that all illegal mexicans crossing the border are drug dealers, murderers, and a drain on our economy.
The drain on our economy thing...That bugs me too. I live and work in a predominantly hispanic area. I have dealings with illegals on a daily basis, partly because of the work I do, and the volunteer work I do. I've mentioned this before, but I will say it again. Regardless of what people have heard over the years, a very large number of illegals do pay taxes. I know I'll hear some flack for it, but it is true. This is a fairly new trend, I'd say by my own estimates something that has been going on for at least the past decade, and maybe a little longer. We've all heard about how large corporations are seeking to hire illegals to work in their production warehouses because of the bottom line. You can get an illegal to do harder work at minimum wage and for longer hours, that a citizen will often pass up. Not that there aren't any legals, or citizens working right alongside, because yes there are! BUT, there are always staffing shortages and the work needs to get done no matter what.
As a casual observer, you might not be aware of what I'm about to reveal to you. But I promise you it happens in every big city in the country, constituting thousands if not millions of illegal staff being hired. And these people are paying taxes. HOW? Staffing agencies and Temp services. You see, the INS can come in and check the books for the employees registered as working for XYZ company. And they will all have SS numbers and everything will look on the up and up. Generally, they don't even bother to do this because it would take a lot of time and manpower to check to see if each and every SS# is legit.
So, basically what is going on is this, as long as the taxes are being taken out of each employees paycheck it doesn't matter if the SS# is real. Employee makes X amount of dollars per week, and X amount of dollars are taken out in taxes. The warehouse/company is not responsible to check IDs, they are passing the buck onto the staffing agency to do the proper checks. All the company worries about is that they need 300 employees per shift to get the work done. The staffing agency can fill that void with no problem, they just assign a fake SS# or recycle numbers for each person they place to that company. The staffing agency will try to hire legals if they can, but if they have a problem filling their quota, who's gonna know the difference?
The staffing agency is making money off from each employee that they can place. Often times, the company will pay something like $6.50/hr, but the staffing agency keeps a percentage and only pays the employee $5.15. It is the staffing agency who makes the paychecks out to the employees. The company only pays a lump sum per day to the staffing agency for fulfilling the quota.
Now here's the tricky part. Illegals know they are illegal, and will never file for an income tax return, or disability, or social security. They can't! Because if they do, the jig is up. All that matters to the illegals is that they can bring home something after a hard week of working. They are not concerned with paying or collecting taxes. The gov't is collecting millions of dollars in taxes that will never be paid back in income tax claims, or social security when these illegals retire.
Instead, the gov't spreads propaganda about how illegals are draining our economy, when in fact they are actually helping our economy. Also, it explains why you don't see the gov't really working all that hard to secure our borders. Having independent groups like The Minuteman Project and the like are just turkey shoots....except that these are human beings we are talking about.
I support more efforts to be made to help those who want to come into the country to work legally, and also amnesty programs for those who have already been here for years and have established families here. Parents of American born children should not have to be treated like criminals just because they were looking for a better life. Should they have entered the country legally? YES! But it is not always a black and white issue, there are not just pat answers to society's problems.
I don't have many answers to give myself, but I'm sure there are better solutions than men patrolling the border and shooting and killing sometimes, illegals attempting to cross. Besides, why not have Minutemen on the Canadian border? Its already been documented that islamic terrorists have crossed the border there to come here and do mischief. What about that? And there ARE illegal Canadians living in the US, as well as other Europeans. Some people just don't want to go back when their visas expire. Why is it always that when one thinks of illegal aliens, its always a mexican that comes to mind? Hmmmm, makes you think.
