I like both those ideas, the whole earth or the cityscape. One of the original cover suggestions was a city layout with each quadrant representing destruction by one of the elements. For example, in the bottom right, you would see the effects of fire, and in the upper left, you would see the effects of wind (sorry to be vague, “effects,” but the whole project is still sub rosa).

But actually, I think the earth would be best; paired with the reapers, the cityscape might make the cover too busy.  And it would have to be a full bleed, else the book would look framed.  The cool thing about using just the earth is that you’ll have a lot of black space surrounding it, some neutral area for the eye to rest and also room for the title and byline.

Yeah, we've decided to go with a cover that represents the idea rather than the specific stories.  So, doing an apocalyptic city scene doesn't really work in that context.

Jacob, what if we combined the ideas and the globe showed signs of each elemental apocalypse? So you wouldn’t have a standard globe, in other words. I can’t get too specific here, so I’ve sent you a personal message.

Oh, sure - get all secretive on us!

Maybe I'm being too sensitive after I blew the secret about The Undead 3, but . . . let’s just say we’re taking the LOST approach: bits of worm here and there, just enough to bait the hook ;)

It only took a couple of days for everyone to drop their pitch forks and flaming torches!  :o

Yeah, I felt like Frankenstein there for a bit. I was sure they were going to set the windmill on fire.

Chris just sent me this mock-up for the full cover.  What do you all think?

What do I think? I think I'm extremely jealous that I don't have a story in such an impressive looking book! ;) Chris is a very talented artist.

Good work and congrats to everyone involved in this project -- this book looks like another winner! I'll definitely be buying it. :)

Yes, I agree with everyone else: The idea is very interesting, and the cover quite well represents the apocalyptic themes.

I like the cover as well - the watercolors are beautiful - but I'm not in love with the lettering.  Too goth/tattoo-ey for me.

An awesome sketch. Can't wait to see the final! Hell, I can't wait for the book! My contribution, "Remains," has to be, in my opinion, the best novella I've ever written. And I’m not just saying that to toot my own horn.  I’m very critical of my own writing, very suspicious of its actual quality--but not with “Remains.”  And while I haven’t read the other three novellas--I’ve been editing nonstop; two novels this month!--I’ve read the synopses, and I’ve read parts, and I can say right now--damn, you guys, it’s good to be here.
