Got my copy today! Read the intro and first story. Oooooh yeeeaaaahhhh.....!!!!! (Though I may never look at squid the same way again, and I'm a HUGE calamari fan.)

Thanks, Jacob, for firing this one off to me.

Threw up an honest opinion on my review blog.

Overall, good stuff.

"Pale Moonlight"... one that fell short?  Mind you, I have really thick skin--and perhaps a thick head  :snell:

I particularly wanted more of the Pale Moonlight story; I think it could make a great novel.  :P

Actually, DL, thanks. I remember praising you for your story either on the board or in chat. Remember that?

It's been, what, five months since I read your story? It slipped past me when I flipped through the book, skimming for the ones I really dug (no pun).

Review being amended.

(And no, folks, I'm not adjusting my review solely because of what D.L. said above. I honestly did like his story and remember even asking him if a novel-length version was in the works utilizing the ideas put forth in "Pale Moonlight.")

The ones that fell short didn't "suck." They just didn't grab me like the ones I cited in the review.

LOL--thanks, Kody.

A.P., thinking back on it, I do remember that conversation in chat.

I also think "Pale Moonlight" needs more, especially in regards to character development--that's where it's skimpiest. I did write another story set in the same universe; some of the zombies show up, and the main characters are mentioned.  I don't know if "Moonlight" will ever grow into anything bigger though.

A.P., I agree with your opinion on “Chuy and the Fish” by David Wellington.  Great story.  But I think
Wellington's "Cyclopean" in The Undead: Skin and Bones tops "Chuy" by far.

Good review A.P.

I know that for a lot of people, "Grinning Samuel" is an odd introduction to my zombieverse - it's very gore-and-action oriented and weird as hell. There really isn't another story like it in my bibliography. It basically lays down some Dunwoody zombie rules and then shows the gruesome result of a faux pas. I don't know what your take on it was, A.P., but it raises eyebrows with some. One reviewer said it made her want to trash the whole book despite its high points!
