Favorite Quotes from Every Sigh, The End
« on: September 29, 2007, 04:13:47 PM »

This book is very quote-worthy. You can hardly read past a page without catching something memorable.

Anyway, here are two of my favorite passages:

"Every one of my generation is lost, filling the holes which are their lives with seditious and yet passionless acts of unnecessary drama."

(So true, especially if you're a member of our generation of twixters.)

and...

"Preston spits right in some fat girl’s face for saying that a vampire could kick a zombie’s ass." (Right on!)

I think D.L. Snell might argue that point with you.

Besides, everybody knows it's werewolves that kick zombie butt.

I think weeners (look to your left) might do some damage as well.

Being a Zombie I must say this:

Sure, a vampire might be able to kick a zombie's ass; but they can still eat his/her/its brain!

Just saying.

Is this conversation really happening?  Are we debating who would triumph between the horror movie monsters?  Without a doubt (and I realize I am biased), the zombie faction would conquer.  In fact, I was so interested in the subject of what subgenre of horror was most important that I addressed--at length--in the book.

Travis, I liked that first quote a lot too when it came out.  I was proud of it.

Personally, I think one of my favorite lines from ESTE--and I feel like such a wanker for quoting my own novel--was the following in regard to New Year's Eve:

"For one night in hundreds, humanity is at what it believes to be its best.  It stands together.  The optimistic stay awake to welcome in a new year, and the cynical linger long enough to say good riddance to that which has passed."

And then there's this, in regard to why people will always lose in the face of zombie Armageddon:

"But, inevitably, they will acquiesce to the onslaught of the undead armies of the world because, in
the end, people want to be this mindless, this simple, this driven, this uniform. This perfect."

I've already written a werewolves-versus-vampires novelette that's currently languishing in the "Recommended" folder on the associate editor's desk at a nameless (pro) publication, awaiting the editor's decision.

The follow-up was going to venture into Lovecraftian territory...  I may have to re-think that and go with zombies instead.  Just to take out some aggression.

ZOMBIES!

And I'm not just saying that because I'm a member; I'm actually ...........

Hehehe.

Zombies would win in the end; why?  Numbers.

I'm not saying I don't like vampires, though the only vampires in my heart are Bela Lugosi and Kate Beckinsale :)

But I gotta agree with Zombie Zak:

Zombies would win in the end; why?  Numbers.

Zombies would win because of their numbers, but also because any living thing that ingests their blood, whether it be werewolves, vampires, or reptilian aliens, automatically dies.

It's in the rules.  Sorry.  If a vamp even touches a zombie with that mouth it will die.

See also: Max Brooks, The Zombie Survival Guide.

Zombies, further, are not constricted by religion and superstition, such as vampires are.  They are beyond God and beyond science; they simply are, and there is no way to stop their spreading.

I feel very strongly about this topic.

And Trav, I was always impartial to Bela Legosi and Cheech Marin as my favorite vampires.

Yeah, but I gotta throw Christopher Lee in there, too. I loved the Underworld movies, but the only gripe I had was they gave too much clout to Kate/Selene. Throwing knives in werewolves heads, wrestling with them. Naaahhh! But I loved her in both films.

Underworld.  Maybe I need to watch it again, though I don't think I can do it.  I just...I didn't like it.  Good-looking Goth people traipsing around a blue-looking world fighting werewolves and vampires and whatnot...It just isn't my bag I suppose.

My favorite vampire movies are From Dusk Till Dawn and The Lost Boys, if that says anything about my feelings toward vampires.

Dusk till dawn was good, but Quentin Tarentino gets on my nerves. He does this gore shit for the sake of gore. What the hell was the hotel thing with killing that woman on the bed? That should have ended up on the cutting room's floor. And then the store where the sheriff is. The aggravating and stupid way he kept telling his brother (Geroge Clooney) how the guy was saying things. I don't know, it was just something that could have been cut out.

But he sure got the right girl for Santanico Pandemonium. Salma Hayek was HOT HOT HOT while doing that dance routine.
