Riddler or Iron Man? Smarter?
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:29:43 AM »

Stupid question to ask considering Tony Stark is supposed to be one of the smartest people in the world but in your take, who is the smarter out of the two? They come from two different comics, one marvel and the other DC. I'm not asking who would win in a fight but who would win in a competition like Jeopardy or Millionaire? Haha what do you think????

I think it's too very different kinds of knowledge.  Tony Stark's an engineering genius, but they've also hinted he's a bit clueless when it comes to other things.  There's a great little bit in the first Iron Man when it's pointed out that Tony doesn't even know his own social security number (I just did a Marvel marathon last week and watched all the films in order :) ).

The Riddler is brilliant, but it all seems very focused through the lens of puzzles/ riddles/ challenges.  If he was a real person, there'd probably be some autism-spectrum diagnosis you could make.  His knowledge base seems much wider, but he's limited by how he can use it.

I'd guess the Riddler would kick ass on Jeopardy, but Tony would be the much more entertaining contestant.  :)

I agree. The Riddler would be just about unstoppable on Jeopardy. Mr. Fantastic would probably do a much better job against him than Tony Stark. He's not necessarily smarter than Tony but seems to have a much broader knowledge base.

BTW, the miniseries I'd like to see for intellect vs. intellect, tech vs. tech, money vs. money, wit vs. wit, and ego vs. ego is Tony Stark vs. Lex Luthor (not the movie Luthor; the badass from the comics or the animated series.)

Which Flash, though?  Jay Garrick?  Barry Allen?  Wally West?

One thing I liked about Arkham City is it turns out the Riddler isn't really THAT smart. He's brilliant, truly, but his deep issue is he's a poseur. He wants to be the smartest man in the room and hates Batman because he's demonstrably smarter.

So are you saying he could beat Tony Stark on Jeopardy or not...?

I actually think the Riddler would get thrown off Jeopardy in the first round. You see, if he got wrong, he'd INSIST that he was right and start blasting people with his Riddler staff or threatening death to Alex Trebek for being an ignoramous like the judges for DARING TO QUESTION HIS GENIUS.

Tony Stark would act exactly like the SNL Sean Connery parody.

Batman, of course, would win.

Edit:

How appropriate.

Hah!  You're right.  That would be fantastic.

Since you've picked the Wally West Flash, I would have to say... the Flash.

Sonic is just a cartoon character.  The Flash is a real guy.

Sonic vs. Roadrunner would be a closer contest.

Hulk would mop the floor with Dr. Jeckyll.

Mr. Hyde would be a little tougher ;)

For a more serious answer:

Mr. Hyde in the original story had no superhuman strength or powers, and was actually a small man compared to the large Dr. Jeckyll. In the Jeckyll/Hyde movies of the 40s he was a brutish looking creature and seemed to be at least as strong as a storng man. In the recent BBC miniseries, Hyde was so strong and ferocious that he killed a zoo lion with his bare hands.

I'd guess that the most powerful version of Mr. Hyde is the version seen in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Huge CGI Hydes in the LXG movie and Van Helsing imitated this. AS tough as these guys are, none of them comes anywhere close to the power of the Hulk in vcomics or movies. If you want the best fight, match the Hyde out of LXG and the Incredible Hulk from the tV show and they;ll be pretty evenly matched.

Otherwise, Hulk wins without breaking a sweat.
