Manurewa (short film)
« on: January 23, 2013, 03:51:57 PM »

Short film by Sam Peacocke, based on the shooting of liquor store owner Navtej Singh during a robbery in 2008. Kind of relevant to me because it happened more or less in my neighbourhood (about a km from where I currently live). The story made big headlines mainly because of the slow police response (shown in the film), and because of citizen groups making noises about forming vigilante patrols after it happened. I'm not sure the film is an especially accurate depiction of events, but these things never are.

For the record, the killer (Anitilea Chan Kee) is currently two years into a minimum 17-year prison sentence.
