Praise and Reviews for -- 14 --
« on: June 08, 2012, 11:21:25 PM »

Maybe it's premature, but I thought I'd copy a few things here.

Craig DiLouie, he of The Infection and The Killing Floor, said "Picture LOST in an apartment building with a cast of ordinary people, some comedy, plenty of charm, and the stakes being the end of the world, and you'd come close to capturing what makes 14 by Peter Clines tick."

Justin Gaines, one of Amazon's top 500 reviewers, said " 14 reads like a modern appreciation of several classic themes and writers, from Stephen King to Richard Matheson to H.P. Lovecraft to, well, Scooby Doo (hey, it works). It starts out like a haunted house/whodunit type story, where you're suspicious of every tenant Nate encounters, but soon takes a turn that brings to mind King's From a Buick 8. After that, things get really interesting!"

And Evan Roy from Bricks of the Dead says ""A wholly original story that weaves together mystery and the apocalypse like a finely tuned band."

I will share more, and would love to hear anyone else's thoughts (good or bad) but you all know me...

If you post spoilers, I will find you, and I will kill you.

 :)

I loved the scene where Bob possessed Agent Cooper!

(Urk! Sorry for the spoiler)

Yikes! At least I didn't reveal that the Creeper was really the bank manager, Mr. Carswell.

(I've done it again, haven'y I?  :-[)

First big review is from our own zombiemutts over at Bricks of the Dead

It gets five full LEGO zombie heads.  Which is good.

Yes, I'd read The Zombie Survival Guide as many times as the next guy, but my whole Z-Plan revolved around -not- getting close enough to the deadheads in order to fight them in hand-to-hand combat. No thanks. Just stay the hell away and put one between their eyes from a safe distance.

I'm about half done. I love the slowly forming puzzle and the characters are great.

Reading it now. Seems like my favourite kind of story - lots of day-to-day life with details. It always "teleports" me deep into the story - as silent spectator. Probably someone will hit me with a brick after few more pages. It's not the type of book when everything is fine and dandy.

My favorite part was when it turned out Peter Clines himself *was* the apartment building.  I did not see that coming.
