2nd request sent.

cartmanking68

Hello, Cartmanking68.

I've received your request.  I usually wait and watch people on the board prior to moving towards signing them into the group -  it's part of my vetting process to find people who are serious about joining versus those who just join for the sake of joining something.

I'll let you know shortly.

I would be interested in joining this group, when it's appropriate for me to do so. I understand that I should be around for a bit before I start. I wanted to let you know that I am interested, though, so you could get to know me from my posts.

Here's my blog link

and a "Fan" article I wrote about Permuted Press.  I don't know why, but I've become hooked on Permuted Press.

new blood new blood new blood new blood new blood fresh new blood fresh new blood fresh new blood!

*ahem*

I think there's a thing on how to join the PIT forum somewhere in these here forums.  It's been a while.  And there it is in post one!  Copied for your pleasure (bloooood)

Quote
1. Read the rules for the group.
2. Address any questions to the moderator (contact@permutedpress.com) before requesting to join.
3. If you have not already, register as a user on the Permuted Press forum.
4. Send your request to join including your real name, your forum username, and the email address you'd like added to THE PIT mailing list to the moderator (contact@permutedpress.com) with the subject "Writer's Group Membership Request."
5. Include cookies.

OH!  And of note, two different groups here.  If you write novels, it's one group.  Short stories, the PIT.  Depends on your pleasure, and they are not mutually exlcusive.

Thank you. Yes, I did see the rules. :-)

I had noticed in the thread that Zak  said he liked to wait and watch people on the board before they joined. I only asked because I didn't know if it was appropriate to send the email yet. I'm excited to get started, but I understand that it takes time to get acquainted.

Thanks for explaining about the two groups. I think  the PIT might be a good place to start.

While we're chatting... Do you think it would be okay if I did mostly reading and critiquing for awhile? I might not have a story right away. Or should I wait till I have at least one? I think I could improve a lot by simply reading and sharing.

Thanks. I look forward to getting to know you!

reading and critting is a GREAT idea!  You learn as much from that as you do from writing your own, learn to crit others you can gain that distance to crit your own stuff.

And yeah, he does like to feel people out a bit.  There's a trust aspect with any writing group.

Thanks!  That was my only question, so far. I'll send the email, but not expect anything right away. I have a lot on my plate at school until the 22nd of Feb. I teach high school  (English/Drama) and direct the after-school plays.

Guess I'll go look for a thread to post, er, something. Maybe I will try to read and figure out the real names versus the forum names. :-)

Hello, JuleR.

Yeah, the "wait and watch thing" is mostly to make sure that prospective new recruits are real people, that they behave, that they're likely to engage and interact and that they're not gonna join and then just go pfffffft.

I've received your email, and as I mentioned earlier, your timing is most excellent.  We are looking for new blood to the group, as things have become a little slow of late.

As for "reading and critting" before submitting, well, that IS a great idea.  (And also a requirement before having any submissions put into the queue - the expectation is that you would have read/critted the previous cycle's entries, before one of your own could go into the queue.)  We currently have an odd blip occurring in the cycles, so jumping on now, will be very fortuitous.

I will keep you posted; you will get a personal message from me (on the board here) as opposed to an open thread post.

I look forward to seeing what you've got inside yer head!

And, PS: I agree with what Thom said!  And what Vic said!

omg.  More power to you.  I did not last long in the public school system so moved on to teach undergrad and now some grad stuff (Creative Writing).

Also, my name is pretty much the same in the writing world only with a 'chase' as the last name.  Most people seem to have the same names as their writer names on here, just last names are missing.  There are pimping threads around to help out with that.

AHA. That helps. :-) I know what to look for now.

Public schools do have frustrating elements. I think I'm enough of a follower that the bureaucracy doesn't bother me. I believe in the institution of public education, as imperfect as it is right now.

Do you teach full time? I'll bet teaching creative writing at the grad level must be very stimulating.
(Wait, am I hijacking the thread? If so, sorry. We can have this conversation another time.)

I am interested in joining THE PIT Writing's Group. As I am new to this forum (joined 2/10/14), I respectfully request to be put on Zombie Zak's Watch List and anyone else's list for membership consideration. I understand that there is a vetting process and will happily wait my turn.

My writing/editing experience is humble compared to the professionals in this forum. I've been faithfully involved in three writing groups (one for eight years, and the others for over two years). One of my short-short stories was selected for publication in a community college contest (emphasis on the humble beginnings here ;D). I've had an agent request to see a synopsis and more of my novel, which I am currently editing. I've edited three novels (written by friends) and many short stories (also by friends), two of the latter have been published. Anyway, please know that I am hungry to learn and willing to contribute.

I would love to follow in the footsteps of JulieR and read/edit when and if my time comes to join. And hey, I can be new blood: AB+, O, B-. Whatever's compatible.

Phew! Feels like going through an interview.
