this looks terrifying... putting it on my to-read list now.

Wait a minute!  I thought you hated werewolves?  That's why I practically had to beg you to pick up The Eerie Adventures of the Lycanthrope Robinson Crusoe.  Heck, not even practically.

I sense a double-standard!!

i do hate werewolves, they're freakin terrifying!  But that's the point of a horror book, isn't it?  ;)

altho i reserve the right to hide the book in the freezer if it gets too scary.  My copy of Robinson Crusoe ended up a little frost-bitten... :D

“With PAVLOV’S DOGS, Brannan and Snell have staked their claim to survival horror’s top spot. Relentless in its pacing and violence, crazed in its inventiveness, spontaneous in its humor, PAVLOV’S DOGS is a horror adventure of the highest order... a masterwork. Prepare yourself, because Brannan and Snell are about to get your heart racing!”—Joe McKinney

I plan to buy a full page ad in CEMETERY DANCE. What does everyone think of the concept attached?

I like the idea a lot.  I would have two concerns, though.  Possibly just because of my being in the 150-300 years old demographic...

First is the profanity.  I like a good bout of swearing as much as the next guy, but it also tends to turn me off a bit when there's absolutely no purpose to it.  I think in this case it's a bit distracting because the ad's so minimal that the pointless profanity is almost all there is to it.

Second is what I just said.  This is a great gimmick, but it's so gimmicky I'd be worried it's just as easy to skim past as it is to scan it.  :-\

(Granted, I just showed it to my lovely lady and she thought it was pretty intriguing.)

I'd at least put the title.  I know it kills the minimalist nature of it a bit, but Pavlov's Dogs is such an awesome title, and with werewolfnovel.com it gives people something to latch onto if they don't scan it right this minute.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Peter, my co-worker loved the ad but wondered about the f-bomb as well (he's in the same demographic  ;)). Both Thom and I like the idea of adding the title, and so far the majority of people polled have been hooked by the gimmick. Most ads in CD that I've seen are overcomplicated, so something like this will provide a stark contrast.

Rakie, smartphone and dumbphone people alike will be fine: I provided the URL in the ad. But someone else mentioned the same thing, and now I'm wondering if I should put the URL right under the QR code...

Swedish Zombie interviewed me, and I got to talk a bit about PAVLOV'S DOGS.

Quote from: D.L. Snell
I think modern fiction, especially modern horror fiction, has this compulsion to explain. But most of the time in zombie fiction, the explanation has very little bearing on the story, in my opinion. And when it does, it feels forced. Sure, there are exceptions—some pretty big ones—but...

About the ad, I've decided to keep the "fucking."

Peter's right: the ad can't just be about the vulgarity. So it's going to have a payoff, a "little death."  And you know, it can't just be about the book. Every ad in that magazine is about that.

So what's it going to look like now?

And very good interview with Swedish Zombie.  You actually got different questions!   :)
