An excerpt from Creatures and Crypts!
From the story Delirium:
Grey locked up the apartment after seeing Gavin and Laura off. He wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol or the late hour but he never felt so exhausted. He stumbled across the living room, to his bedroom.
He peeled the first layer of clothes down to his underwear and fell onto the bed. The thought of going to the master bath to cleanup faded quickly into his unconscious as sleep snatched him away.
It was still dark outside when the weeping woke him. Or was it sniveling? Grey opened his eyes and strained to focus through blurred vision and throbbing headache. His gaze spotted the silhouette of someone standing in his room.
His muscles tensed immediately. His heart fluttered, his pulse quickened as panic washed through him. He wanted to call out but his voice vanished. He prepared to jump from the bed but instinctually he reached for the lamp on the nightstand beside his bed.
Sniveling came again as amber light illuminated the room. Laura stood in front of him, naked, her skin glistening with trails of blood. In her hand was a large butcher knife. Her eyes welled. Her lips trembled.
Grey’s eyes widened. “Laura?”
“It won’t stop, Grey.” She balled now. “It told me to do it. It told me to.”
“What’s going on? Are you okay?”
She said nothing more. Her eyes went glassy and her nostrils flared. Laura lunged at him suddenly, her face a mask of rage and hatred. She brought the knife down in a swift arc and missed.
Grey rolled off the bed, narrowly escaping the blow. He toppled to the floor and crawled on his belly. Laura let out a frustrated scream as Grey pulled himself to his feet. He watched her back against the wall and slash her wrists then her throat. She dropped the knife and slid to the floor.
“Laura no! Oh my God!” He ran to her side. Rivers of crimson gushed out of her. Her eyes fluttered and her lips moved but he could not hear what she was saying. He raced to the kitchen to grab his cell and call 911.
