A few of you already know this, but I figured I'd put it up here just in case...

You may have heard of Amazon Studios, the shiny-new film branch of everyone's favorite monolithic book seller.  Back in November they started taking pitches for a sci-fi idea they had.  My lovely lady heard about it a few days before their deadline, we both played around with a few ideas, and I submitted a pitch about half a second before said deadline.

Last week Amazon got in touch with me to let me know they loved my pitch and wanted to hire me to expand it into a full treatment.  Four other folks got hired to expand their pitches, too.

And today it became official.

I'm betting this is for their On Demand streaming service in answer to Netflix making their own content. That shouldn't have the same stigma of a 'made for tv movie' btw! These on demand streaming services are changing tv viewing big time and in the right way.

Ive been using both services since the day they came out and it's a great way to watch TV. I'd say 90% of our TV viewing comes from our Roku video player.

How many entries do you think there were for the competition?  (i'll be less impressed if you say "five" )

As I understand it, Amazon got about a thousand entries-- way, way up from the barely three hundred they got the first time they tried this.

Falling back on the 50% rule, that means I was in competition against about five hundred people for five slots.  So, one out of a hundred.

In my opinion, Steven Tomlin's pitch is the only one that comes at all close to competing with yours, LA.  Pretty much echoing Wardog's sentiments.

It's still early days, and this meeting was just them tossing some notes out to me.  It's pretty much an open assignment so they have some ideas about what they want, but they're also willing to listen to anything.

They had some thought on my pitch.  A lot of stuff they really liked.  A few things they didn't.  One key thing they pointed out which I'm mildly ashamed of.  So now I've got four weeks to write up a much more detailed ten-page treatment, and if they like that I get hired to turn it into a screenplay.  And then that get pitched further up the development line, and so on, and so on.

Expect to see this on the big screen for Christmas 2017.
