I bring this up here because it's going to affect a lot of folks here.
I'm going to be doing a massive cull in my friends list, probably tonight or tomorrow. Facebook's new system is just a little too much transparency for my liking. It's one thing to share things with friends, but it's entirely another to share it with friends of friends. About 200 people got access to a picture of my niece because I commented on it. Which meant any of you could've commented on it and then everyone on your lists would have access to that picture.
The more friends you have, the more of a threat you are to my privacy and to her privacy. I think it's stupid, too, but I'm not the guy who changed how things work. If someone's got over 300 friends, they're on the short list. Over 400 and they're gone. Don't even bother sending friend requests if you're in that category. And that's why it'll affect folks here, because I know a lot of you use your personal page on Facebook as a fan page (including the Permuted Press page).
And I don't have any problem being friends with any of you. But I'm not going to be a friend to your fan page. Not anymore, anyway.
Yes, I know there's a bunch of settings. All I need to do is ask all 200 people to subscribe to me, wait until they do, and then make sure everything I post is tagged for friends only.
Or I can do this. And if enough people do, maybe Facebook will take the hint. I doubt it, but...
