To begin, please introduce yourself to our audience. What is your name? Who are you? What books have you written?
My name is Stevie Kopas and I am the author of the post apocalyptic survival adventure series, The Breadwinner Trilogy. Books 1 and 2, The Breadwinner and Haven, were self published by me within the last year and Permuted Press is rereleasing them along with the third book in the series, All Good Things, in the spring of 2015.
What first inspired you to become a writer? And what compels you to continue your career as an author?
I think that the inspiration comes from the need to create. When writing, I have the capability of creating and destroying, it’s almost like I am the ruler of my own universe that I create. The need to continue writing is that people enjoy what I write, and to be honest, I’m not writing for myself anymore, I’m writing for them.
What is the first book you read that made you fall in love with literature?
Last Exit to Brooklyn, by Hubert Selby Jr.
What do you think is the most difficult part of being a writer? What is the most rewarding part?
The most difficult part of being a writer is definitely time management. If I didn’t have a demanding full time job, I’d be able to spend all of my time writing and editing and writing some more. But the reality is that I can’t, but this is my passion, so making time is something that is a must do. The most rewarding thing about writing is that at the end of the day, I’ve accomplished something on a whole new level that makes me happy, and in turn, makes others happy.
What is your most recent work? What can audiences expect from this book or series?
I’m currently working on All Good Things, the third and final installment in The Breadwinner Trilogy. Fans of TBW series can expect to get major closure, heartache, shocking twists and a few misty eyed moments. It’s been tough to write because a big part of my doesn’t want it to end, but I know that, like the title, all good things must come to an end.
What do you think are the most common misconceptions about writers?
I went to a small con last year in Panama City called Creative Con. The biggest surprise to the people there was that I was an energetic, talkative and bubbly author. I think even writers often dub themselves as introverts or hermits, perhaps even in the horror genre, as weird. But all of the writers I’ve come in to contact with have been helpful, friendly, enthusiastic, etc. So probably the biggest misconception would be that writers sit around in dark rooms drinking alone with a computer.
Why did you decide to join Permuted Press?
The majority of the zombie and horror fiction I have read over the years has come from Permuted. It was an exciting opportunity for me and I couldn’t miss it.
What are your dreams for the future as a writer?
I’ve got a lot more content up my sleeve. The possibilities are endless and I plan on doing and writing as much as I can. Whatever I need to do to make the most possible for myself, I’m down.
Is there anything else that you would like for people to know about yourself and your work?
I’m excited when I write it, I’m excited when I read it, and then I get excited all over again when it’s in the hands of my readers! As much as it kills me to end TBW trilogy, I can’t wait to deliver to my readers what I’ve got in store for them next!
Do you have any events coming up such as conventions or book signings?
I’m not that cool yet. Sorry folks!
